E-Commerce ColdFusion Conference '00

Maryland CFUG and the Capital PC User Group

Over 200 ColdFusion programmers and e-commerce professionals gathered Feb. 12 and Feb. 13 in Bethesda, MD for the E-Commerce ColdFusion Conference '00 -- CF Conf '00. The two-day event presented tips and tricks for developing Web sites and online stores.

Topics at the conference covered the broad range of issues ranging from payment processing, site design and maintenance, data warehousing and data mining, to security and legal issue.

Presenter Adam Churvis of Productivity Enhancement Inc., maker of CommerceBlocks and DatabaseBlocks, demonstrated techniques and freely shared lines of code and advice he's gained over the past 15 years. Speaking programmer to programmer, he candidly addressed the room, all in the hope of giving his audience, which included beginners through seasoned CF experts, an edge on designing Web sites, communicating with merchants, and effectively running a CF business.

Churvis stressed the importance of ease-of-use and customer service in a Web site, as well as the need to listen to and work with merchants when developing online stores. He also demonstrated several examples of WDDX packets and suggested users check out the Ohio Area CFUG site which contains more information on WDDX as well as demos.

In addition to the deluge of information, several attendees went home with prizes from drawings of at the end of each break. Prizes included ColdFusion 4.5, Server, and Professional.

The event, which was co-sponsored by TeraTech, sponsors of the Maryland CFUG, and the Capital PC User Group, grew out of a seminar Churvis taught in his hometown of Atlanta last summer.

In appreciation of the amount of information shared and the fast pace of the event, attendees can view all the code taught at the event, plus a PDF version of the conference at http://www.coldfusionseminar.com. Attendees should have received e-mailed login names and passwords to access the site.

Churvis also pointed attendees to his company's site www.commerceblocks.com for downloadable tutorials and custom tag examples.
